Honestly, working in the film business can be frightening. You aren't sure what you're going to be doing in the spring. You aren't sure if you're going to like the people that you're working with next month.

It's important to be able to find people who want to work as hard as you do, that want to advance their career like you do.

It's hard to know how to move from one level of the film making process to another. How do you go from being an Electrician, to a Best Boy, to a Gaffer, to DP, to Director, to Producer?

There's no formula. There's no format. A lot of times there is a very loose job description... and you just jump in.

ejen chuang - There's good and bad about being in this biz...and the creative world in general. The good is that there's many ways and no one way to get to where you want to go. The bad thing is there's many ways and no one way gets to where you want to go.

It basically boils down to persistence, luck and know-how. Persistence will bring luck and once luck happen, you need know-how to back it up.

Just be aware that the longer you stay at one level, the harder it is to move to the next level. You get used to it, you become comfortable, and then you're in trouble. It'll be harder to readjust to the next level.

I know because this happen to me twice already. I get comfortable and the next thing I know it, a year goes by...then another...holy crap, it has been 4 years !

Whatever you want to do, get as close as you can to it. Absorb what you see. Learn. Be prepared.
