I just messed with the new Nikon D90... WTF?!?!

It's a basic digital SLR, uninteresting, still camera. Nikon doesn't make movie cameras so I'm usually not too interested. I'm a Canon guy.
But this one is the beginning of something awesome. I had been waiting for the SLR manufacturers to enter the videocamera landscape at some point in the not too distant future. The D90 is the first shot across the bow.
It's got built in video capture at HD quality resolution and better than HD quality color capture. I shot 2 takes of a monologue (1.5 minutes each) and I have to say it's a little disorienting to be holding a still camera as if it were a video camera.
The major crapper is that you can't use the focus while you are filming, as you would use a follow focus knob. You either set the Auto Focus to ON or you set the manual focus depth to a setting that you want to record at, but you can't refocus during the shot.
It's a pretty cool camera. I can't wait for Canon to make a better one. All my lenses are Canon. |
