Hey there! This is a very specific job, so please read and only respond if this applies to you, or someone you know. Thanks!
First off, I'm directing a feature film that I wrote, I'm producing, and I'm financing out of my own pocket the last 2 weeks of March. We're shooting for 2 weeks in Arkansas (very run-and-gun/guerilla style). This is a horror/thriller film in the vein of Wolf Creek/Last House on the Left-- so I was just planning on DPing the film myself, but I thought I would pass the opportunity to someone who could benefit from it more than I could (since I'm not a DP) and would want the job.
This will very much be an "El Mariachi" type shoot. Only a few people on set. Minimal locations, mainly all daytime exteriors, etc. I'm not one of those filmmakers that wants to rebel against Hollywood. I'm just trying to make a movie the only way I know how with the resources I have around me. Can't blame a guy for that, can you?
So here are the requirements:
-The budget of the film is probably less than what you paid for your car. All of the money is basically going to film and all the costs that go along with it. I know this is going to be hard to find, but I'd like to find someone who is young; possibly fresh out of film school, has a S16 camera, a couple of lights, and some sticks. Someone who isn't in it for the money, but for the experience (i promise you, it will be an experience), or the credit of doing a feature film. No one else working on this film is getting paid. But let's talk. Tell me what's on your mind.
-Please be able to be in Arkansas for those 2 weeks. I know it sucks with little/no money for this gig, and bills need to be paid, I know all of this. So I completely understand that not everyone can do this job.
-Please have at least a working camera, zoom lens, and some sticks. Anything else is just a luxury. If you have connections to cheap telecine, or cheap film-- you're a God.
I'm not really concerned with your experience. As long as you know what you're doing (can load mags, give this film a decent look, problem solve, etc) I'd love to hear from you. I'd love it if you have some examples of your work for me to look at.
Like I said before, basically, if no one can/wants to DP the movie, I'm going to do it myself. I've worked with film numerous times and could pull it off, but I'd much rather give it to a young DP who's just getting on his feet and is down for an adventure.
Food, lodging, and travel will be covered to Arkansas (I hope you don't mind road trips). This is going to be some old school filmmaking fun. We're making an old school, good time kinda movie-- so hopefully this will be the experience of a lifetime.
